Heathers dad suffered a stroke last night. :(
He was taken to the emergency room last night, and is currently in the Neuroscience Critical Care Unit. We don't know much about what has happened yet, other then he had some plaque in Carotid Artery, the artery that supplies your brain with blood. He has the symptoms of a stroke victim, but the doctors do not yet know if he actually suffered a stroke. He had a busy morning with hours of testing and an MRI.
We had the bikes on the car, and all the gear in the trunk when we went to visit him. After seeing him in the ICU, we decided to put off our trip for a week. Heather is taking this really hard, and just simply would not be able to enjoy our vacation knowing her dad is wired up to half a dozen machines in the ICU.
Thoughts and Prayers would be appreciated. :(

41 hours left in Utah.
Friday morning is fast approaching! In just 41 hours from now, we will set off on the short drive (compared to riding our bikes, that is) to Roosville, Montana. Start of our two month long mountain bike tour.
We still have lots of stuff to do around the house, lots.
Today we finished our taxes (talk about putting it off until the last moment), got our bikes back from the shop, finished up our food and gear shopping, and soon, we will pack our bags for the last time!
I have no idea what we have planned for tomorrow, but I'm sure a dozen different things will come up and keep us busy. If we have enough time, we will go on our last fully loaded shake down tour.
This will be our last blog post while in Utah. We will update you as often as possible while on the trail.
Wish us luck! :)

Track us with SPOT!
The last post you see in our blog came from our new SPOT personal GPS tracking device. Every night when we set up camp, we will update our blog with a new SPOT post. Click the link at the bottom of the post to goto google maps, and you can see where we are at!
If things go really bad, we can send out a distress call and have SAR help us out. Hopefully we will not have to use that function, but its there for peace of mind.

Training Ride 8-5-08 - Saltair
This Tuesday, Joe and went on a 4 hour bike ride. The route was from our house, up past the airport, then on a frontage road that leads to Saltair. Unfortunately, we didn't make it to our destination, as we were running out of energy and we didn't bring any food with us. We were only 4 miles away! Next time, we'll make it for sure.
Here are a couple of pics of the trip.
Joe getting ready to head out.
My rig.
Joe's rig.
You can't drink enough water while riding.
When you're riding a bike, you are able to appreciate the scenery more. Here is a nice shot of Antelope Island.
Me taking a break.
This is looking back towards the airport and downtown. The weather was quite moody. It was nice to not have to ride in the sun.
Here is our route. We went about 28 miles round trip with 25 lbs of salt in the trailers. It was a nice, flat even ride compared to the Emigration Canyon ride!
Here we are. Tired, sore and as happy as can be!
Here is a small taste of the ride.

Another of the TableTop Series
Yeah???
Sorry about the poor quality of an otherwise high quality picture. ;) The above was drawn while on a lunch date that included Joe, Heather, and Joe's sister Andrea.

Tough Work - Part 3
Dusk came quickly on Tuesday night and we were ready for it. What a beautiful location to set up camp, isn't it?
We had to make sure we woke up very early in the morning on Wednesday. Camping is illegal at the reservoir. It's too bad more people don't enjoy the mornings. Dawn is one of the most magnificent times of the day.
It would have been lovely to stay there all day, but we were getting eager to get back home. It was just a few quick climbs on the bikes and then the rest of the ride back to the loft was easy. It was 80% downhill!
I really gained an amazing sense of accomplishment after this tour. The ride on Monday night, was the hardest ride I've ever done. It's amazing what your body can do with a bit of determination. At this point, I'm feeling that the sky is the limit!
Here is a map of our route via roadmob.
There are many more pictures of this trip if you'd like to see them, they are here.
Thanks for checking in!

Tough Work - Part 2
By the time we got into our camp at Affleck Park, it was dark and all we had the energy to do was set up camp, eat dinner and pass out.
Backpacker's Pantry is a lifesaver sometimes. Thanks Dad, for the wedding gift, we are definitely using them!
Here's what dinner looked like. It's pictured next to our bear vault.
Pepe le Pew came to visit us that night. He must have liked the smell of our Pad Thai. Can you see him? He scurried off before we could take a better picture.
Sleep was well received Monday evening and we both passed out and slept in until 10 am or so. Here's what camp looked like in the morning.
Coffee and oatmeal is a blessed thing in the morning mountains. Especially after a hard night of riding. Here's out little setup. The attachment turns our Nalgene bottle into a French press. Pretty nifty, eh?
After breakfast, we packed up and set off on this trail.
I could immediately feel the strain in my legs, but riding was still a lot easier than I expected. Even though it was difficult, I found that climbing the hills was done with more ease than before. Gotta love building muscle! :)
The Mormon Pioneer Trail is a beautiful, lush green single track from Affleck Park.
It was a relatively short ride to the road, but by the time we were there, we decided to take it easy and ride down the hill back to the reservoir.
After such a tough day on Monday, we decided to camp here at Little Dell Reservoir. We spent most of the day resting.
The view from our resting point.
Listening to your body is important, and our bodies were telling us to take it easy.
Then our bodies told us to play hacky sack.
To be continued.
