It was a tough climb to the Whitefish Pass. We met an old couple at Grave Creek who gave us drinking water before we left. They were big Obama supporters. There were lots of wild berries on the roadside that we took advantage of. We saw one black bear on the road that was quite close to us. He was only about 100 feet away. I looked up from my path and saw him. He saw me and ran off into the woods.
Almost every car (which is few) that pass us on this dirt road waves. I'm going to have a lot of mosquito bites by the time we get to camp.
About 2 miles away from camp we see a huge bear shit in the road. This makes us a bit nervous. When we finally do get to camp a deer hangs out with us, eating the grass and walking around our site.
The campgrounds we have been to so far are different than ones we go to in Utah. These ones seem like real cowboy camps. There is a lot of firewood, so we build a small fire and the pine brush immediately ignites without a new light from the previous camper.
The river is beautiful. We sleep very well regardless of our bear fright. I had many lucid dreams that night.
