YAYAYAY!
Heather turned 29 today! We spend the day snowboarding at Brighton, a beautiful bluebird day, not a cloud in the sky! We found a few hidden powder stashes but spent most of the day just playing around on the groomed runs.
After a day of boarding we made our way to Benihana's for sushi, steak, fish and a show. We ended up getting front row seats to the club DV8 fire! We literaly were eating steak and fish watching 40' high flames come out of the DV8 roof just accros the lawn. Qutie the show!
We shared our table / grill with the crew from http://www.nidecker.com/, they make some cool snowboard stuff, check out there website.

Three couples who rode the Great Divide Trail
1: Paula & Scott road the trail backwards, from Mexico to Canada. Check out the stats at the bottom of the main page. Great gear reviews and pictures.
2: David & Angela also did the GDT in 2004, they ran into Paula & Scott in Montana, observant readers will notice the same trail map... David & Angela both went to BYU!
3: Dave & Michelle finished the ride in Sept of 2007. This is my favorite of the three blogs, with amazing pictures, a complete gear list and very descriptive writing. Spend a bit more time on this website, look at their other adventures!
There you go, three great websites/blogs by couples who have done the Great Divide Mountain Bike Trail. Reading these sites have given me a lot more confidence in pulling this trip off. If these six people can complete the ride, there is no question that Heather and I can also do it.
We just need to start riding! We haven't been on our bikes for over a month...

Fred has a blog!
Fred, our friend who is hooking us up in Costa Rica recently started a blog about his life in Costa Rica. Check it out: http://fincaleola.com/CostaRicanLife/
Long before blogs, Fred kept writings under the title of 'life in the campo' on his website. If you find yourself with a few free hours, I highly recommend reading all his stories. It will really give you an idea of what we can expect when we move there later this year. Heres the link: http://www.fincaleola.com/life_on_the_campo.htm

How We Spend Our Non-Lift Days
Joe and I have season passes to Brighton Ski Resort. However, they are only valid from Monday-Thursday. On Friday, we had some powder fever and decided to take our boards up Big Cottonwood Canyon to go play around Mill D South. We had the entire hill to ourselves, and we spent a good two hours trudging up and boarding back down again.
The powder was at least two feet deep! You can see it in the video below as I am making a platform for us to clip in on.
So we didn't have the luxury of riding the ski lift and going down a long run, but we did have the benefit of burning a few extra calories as a result! We also fashioned up a jump for ourselves! Watch the video below for that!
Having all that powder sure makes falling a lot easier! I made it out with no bruises!

Powder powder everywhere...
It's been a while sense our last adventure post! We have been busy playing in all the fresh stuff that's on the ground. Another three feet of famous Utah powder has fallen in the last few days.
Heather and I slept in on Wednsday as we both had low expectations for any snow that day. It wasn't until we heard the news that both little and big cottonwood canyons were closed due to avalanche danger. The SkiUtah snow report was reporting only 4" of new snow over night, but we knew better... 4" of new snow dosen't send down a 300 foot wide slide!
We quickly found something to eat, downed a couple cups of coffee and started to hit re-fresh every few minutes on the UDOT traffic page. At 10:45am Big Cottonwood Canyon opened up, at 10:50am we were on the road. The canyon lights where on, 4x4 or Chains required, we decided to ignore the lights (again), and hope that front wheel drive and traction control are enough. With a bit of creative driving and luck we arrived safe at Brighton just before noon.
We knew it would be a good day on the drive up because we stayed under 20mph the whole way. We counted over a dozen small slides that reached the road, some only two or three feet deep, and a small handful of the slides made it across the road and into the river. No wonder it took UDOT and the plows over three hours to open up the road!
We found ourselves on the lift soon after arriving, no need to wait in line today! The resort was empty.
It's not often that you find 18" of powder on the green runs! Heather got her first real feel of Utah powder. The green runs were too flat to be fun, so we headed to the top of the mountain and tackled a dozen or so blue runs and two short and sweet black diamond runs. We both found hidden powder stashes that came up past our knees, a few spots came up mid-thigh! When four rolled around we made our way to Molly Greens, which is Brighton's Pub. After an hour of drinking and eating we decided to cash in our night passes and spend another few hours on the mountain.
Night skiing wasn't as great, the parking lot quickly filled up and lift lines when from non existent to a 10 minute wait... we decided to hit up the slower lift and search for hidden powder on the green runs. Even at 9pm, we were finding 12 - 18" of powder ours for the taking... Without any question, Wednesday was our best day yet on the slopes. There was just something amazing about the day, the late start, the fresh powder, hitting up dozens of new runs with nobody else in view.
The powder fest didn't end Wednesday! Another 18" fell between Wed night and Friday afternoon. I'll have Heather post about todays adventure as soon as we finish editing the video... :)

Snowboarding Day 8!
Joe and I have just returned home from Solitude Ski Resort where we spent a full day snowboarding some delicious powder. It was snowing all day, so the powder just kept refreshing itself, building up to make for some fantastic boarding.
I felt it was my best day yet, as I finally got the hang of carving on my toe side. I even braved a couple of blue square runs, which our friend Brian thinks I am ready for. Joe went down the ultimate thrill of Solitude, the amazing Honeycomb Canyon. This is a double black diamond run and a first for Joe so he made quite the progression as well!
Sadly, we have no videos or pics of the day, but we are planning a fun filled day at Brighton on Tuesday and we're packing the cameras! Stay tuned for some great footage!
